Nearly two dozen courses have been added to the summer lineup offered by Mt. San Jacinto College’s Community Education and Services program.
The “College for Kids” summer program has been improved, said Rhonda Dixon, program coordinator. It has four new math classes: Fractions Camp, Jump Start Middle School Math, and two Multiplication Camps for grades 2-5 and 3-6. Other new kid’s classes include a chess camp, wildlife art and coral reef art adventure. Backyard Bird Brainiacs will have children designing and building special puzzle box-type bird feeders to show how wild birds solve problems to get food. The MSJC Community Education program provides personal and professional development, skill improvement and upgrading, cultural enrichment and recreational courses. Most classes are not for credit seminar courses with subjects ranging from Introduction to the Art and Science of Wine Tasting and Wire Sculptured Jewelry to golf instruction and a variety of computer classes. Of interest to businesses might be courses such as Introduction to ISO 9000:2000, Recycled Water Supervisor, Notary or Enrolled Agent Exam preparation. These classes are fully supported by registration fees, not by taxpayer dollars, Dixon said. The course fees are based on the cost of the program. A series of free non-credit classes include English as a Second Language, Citizenship, GED test preparation, Fitness for Older Adults and a Promising Writer’s Workshop.
